Stop Selling Yourself Short

After 18 years of experience in the work place, I have finally decided to take a bet on myself. I decided that I have enough work and leadership experience to share with others in order for you to be successful. Believe it or not, it took me a while to get to this point. I know you may be wondering, what took you so long? Who was holding you back? To be honest with you…it was me. Yes, the same person that I would hype up every day and take into the workplace with me to show up and kill it, was the same person that was holding me back. In front of coworkers, supervisors and complete strangers, I would perform my job to the best of my ability and above others expectations. If you saw me in a crowd or if I were on a platform where I would have to speak, you probably would have never guessed that I was in a negative relationship. At the end of the day I would go home and hang out with self-doubt. According to the Cambridge English Dictionary, Self-Doubt is defined as a feeling of having no confidence in your abilities or decisions. Some days we were mere associates and some days we were the best of friends. It was as if I were living a double life. During a new assignment in my career I was encouraged to stop selling myself short because I was good at what I did and needed to own it. The same words that I would tell people who came to me for advice, encouragement or mentoring were being told to me. Of course I didn’t listen to the advice until five years later. So here I am, sitting here at the swim school while my oldest daughter is taking swim lessons putting my thoughts on “paper”(Habakkuk 2:2, And the Lord answered me and said: Write the vision and make it plain upon tablets, that he may run that readership it.).Am I nervous? Of course! I have decided to take a leap of faith (Jeremiah 17:7, But blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in him.) and I am not sure where it will take me. However, I am willing to take the chance and see what happens. If I can reach just one person then I have done what God wants me to do. Leading people within an organization is a challenge but guess what? You were built for it. If you weren’t God would not have put you in the position. Leading won’t always be easy, but I do believe that it will be worth it! You are not alone. We are in this together. If you are selling yourself and your talents short, stop it, right now! This very moment is the time to show the world your experience and talents. Stop waiting for the perfect moment, there will never be one. Stop waiting for others to support you, their support may never come. Stop worrying about what everyone else is going to think, their opinions especially if they are negative, don’t matter. Take the leap of faith and do what you have been called to do. Walk in your truth, walk-in in who you are. The time is now. I am humbled that you have chosen to take this leadership and life journey with me. I am also excited about what God has in store for us. Remember, Stand tall and walk in who you are, you are She.
