Over the years I have encountered many women who are killing the game in Corporate America and the Military. These women come from many backgrounds, experiences and walks of life. Although we are different we have the same story. Somewhere along our career path there was someone who tried to stop us from getting to the next level. For them their time and efforts were wasted because God had a plan for us. That’s right, from the very beginning he knew where he was going to position you, the impact that you would have on people and your organization and what you were going to go through to get there. When God has a plan for you and your life and other people’s destiny is tied to you, no matter how hard people try, no matter what tactics they use, God has the final say.
I know you are probably thinking Sis this sounds good in theory but how do I push through?! This is for the birds! I am tired, and I feel like I am in this fight by myself. Don’t worry, Sis. I am going to tell you how I pushed through. I am going to be honest, it was not an easy thing to do. There were days that I wanted to give up, but I also had to believe there was a purpose for it all and that God’s plan was BIGGER than any plan that was put in place to destroy me.
Here are a few things I learned over the years that helped me stay focused on God’s plan for me as a leader and not man’s plan for me.
I had to truly trust God (Proverbs 3:5-6).
I had to stop trying to figure things out on my own and let Him guide me. This was done by getting up early in the morning and spending time with Him by reading my bible, journaling and watching my reactions when situations arose.
I had to know what I was going through (negative or positive) was a part of God’s plan to help me grow as a person and a leader (Jeremiah 29:11).
I would literally quote this scripture to remind myself that everything I encountered was a part of the plan.
Promotion comes from God (Psalm 75:6-7).
I had to remember that God uses people to promote me, but they were not the ones who had the final say whether I was ready for promotion. Don’t get caught up in pleasing a person because you think they have the keys to your promotion.
Stay true to your brand (Colossians 3:23).
As a leader, your superiors and subordinates are going to love you and your leadership style, or they are not but stay true to who you are. Don’t lose yourself or your soul to please people or to make an organization happy.
Surround yourself with like-minded, positive people (Proverbs 27:17).
I surrounded myself with like-minded and positive people who were always willing to lend a listening ear, give an encouraging word and on some days, they were my hype man. It was truly a blessing to be around positive people. We spoke life into each other.
Seek Godly counsel/wisdom (Psalm 37:30-40)
There is a difference in seeking counsel and seeking Godly counsel. I always made sure that I would get a perspective from those who read the word and spent time with God as well because their outlook on situations would be different than those who didn’t. It was always refreshing to get a different perspective.
Yes Sis, that is how I pushed through and continue to push through. Your list may be different and that is okay. You may not have a list, but you know that your strategy works for you. Whatever it is that keeps you going know that it is all a part of God’s plan. Keep Pressing, if necessary regroup and come back stronger than ever!
